THE HARD TRUTH: There is great concern that we (the Church) aren't giving kids tools that will "stick" and propel them to change the world. More than ever in this country, ministries to kids and teens are busting at the seams with more kids, staff, volunteers, facilities, and resources dedicated to reaching kids and teenagers. BUT - Are we really producing Christ-followers who ruthlessly love Jesus and are prepared to change the world?
THE EVIDENCE: Barna Research shows that 75% of kids growing up in Christian churches leave the church or their faith during the college years. Another study shows in the U.S., only 4% of the population under age 30, can express the message of the gospel and consider themselves to be Christ-followers.
WHAT THIS MEANS LONGTERM: While loosing MORE of our children to culture, we're also bringing LESS adults to faith in Christ. We loose more than we reach!
The result: An overall decline of the percentage of Christians in the US.
We are facing a crisis of evangelism AND discipleship when it comes to reaching and keeping our kids and teenagers. BUT - We believe it's not, on the forefront, a crisis of the church. Instead, we believe that this is a crisis in and of the HOME.
